Cornwall College Breakfast Program

Scores of needy students are now benefitting from the Cornwall College Breakfast Program, which was officially launched at the Orange Street, Montego Bay-based institution.

Cornwall College Alumni Association Canada officially launched a breakfast program on Wednesday January 27th 2016. The program was designed to ensure that students who did not have breakfast in the mornings were provided with one.

With the generosity of Mr. Steve Coulighan CEO of Scarlett House Group of Companies along with esteemed Cornwall College Old Boy Mr. Denham Jolly we were able to feed approximately 50 students daily. The students were identified by the guidance counsellor's office, and monitored by the then acting Vice Principal Mrs. Vinnette Virgo. The meals were prepared by Goddard Catering Group under the directive of Executive Chef Daniel Schweizer.

The program was well received and got immense coverage in the local press. Present at the press launch were, Cornwall College board chairman Dr. Cecil Aird, President of the Cornwall College Old Boy's Association Montego Bay Chapter Heroy Clarke, Director of the Ministry of Education Region four Dr. Michelle Pinnock, Scarlett House Catering Director Maher Ahmed, Scarlett House Catering Marketing Specialist Alicia Gies and President of the Cornwall College Alumni Association (Canada) Charles Gordon.

After running successfully for the first year the program lost its major sponsor Scarlett House Catering. This resulted in the program going into hiatus for the 2017 and 2018 school year.

We were able to resume the program again in January 2019 when Mr. Denham Jolly stepped up to be the major sponsor for the program's resumption. This time we engaged a number of individuals to be patrons of the program in an effort to garner some traction and also to seek additional donors to assist in ensuring the long term sustainability of this needy program.
